24"wide by 16"high Poster of the Lagoon Nebula M8.

The Lagoon Nebula, also known as Messier 8 (M8), is a large and bright emission nebula located in the constellation Sagittarius. It is one of the most prominent and easily recognizable nebulae in the night sky. The Lagoon Nebula is situated about 4,100 light-years away from Earth and covers an area of approximately 110 by 50 light-years, making it a sizable celestial object.

M8 gets its name from the dark lane that cuts through the center of the nebula, resembling a lagoon or body of water. This dark lane is actually a dense cloud of interstellar dust that obscures the light from the background stars and gas, giving the nebula its characteristic appearance.

The Lagoon Nebula is a stellar nursery, hosting a vast number of young, hot stars that illuminate and ionize the surrounding hydrogen gas. The intense radiation from these massive stars excites the hydrogen atoms, causing them to emit light in the form of red hydrogen-alpha emission, giving the nebula its reddish hue. The glowing hydrogen regions contrast beautifully with the dark, dusty lanes, creating a visually striking scene.

Due to its brightness and size, the Lagoon Nebula can be observed with binoculars or small telescopes, and it is a popular target for both amateur and professional astronomers. It is best seen from the southern hemisphere and low latitudes in the northern hemisphere during the summer months.

The Lagoon Nebula is a captivating object in the night sky, offering astronomers valuable insights into the processes of star formation and the dynamics of God's creations. It continues to be a fascinating subject of study and observation in the field of astronomy.

This photo of the Lagoon nebula represents one (1) evening of capturing protons. Sometimes you just get lucky. Being one of the brighter nebulas within the nebula rich portion of the Milky Way, I was able to capture enough protons with shorter exposures to bring out the best of the Lagoon nebula. Combining 300 sixty (60) second exposures to create one, resulting in five (5) hours of integration. The advantage of shorter exposure time is fewer lost images from satellites, clouds, and airplanes. This is one of my top picks. The one I mentioned on my FB page that looks better in person than on the screen. With the golden outer colors and the beautiful blues of the potion considered to be the Lagoon. The brightness of the lagoon reminds me of how when Jesus comes his garments will be white. This is an amazing image that will definitely catch your eye. Astronomy photography requires specialized equipment, more work, more editing, and a lot of patience. Where God guides, he provides.
