36"w by 24"h Poster of the North America NGC7000.

The NGC 7000, commonly known as the North America Nebula, is a large and intricate emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. Its name derives from the resemblance its shape bears to the continent of North America when observed in certain orientations. This nebula is a stunning example of the beauty and complexity of celestial formations.

Key characteristics of the NGC 7000 North America Nebula include:

  • The nebula showcases intricate patterns of dark dust lanes, bright ionized gas regions, and fainter background emission. The shape resembling North America is often referred to as the "Gulf of Mexico," and it's surrounded by a patchwork of glowing gas, giving it a striking visual appeal.
  • NGC 7000 is situated in the northern region of the Milky Way galaxy, near the prominent star Deneb in the constellation Cygnus. It's best observed from mid-northern latitudes during the summer months.
  • The North America Nebula is primarily composed of hydrogen gas that is ionized by the radiation from nearby hot stars. This ionization process causes the gas to emit light at specific wavelengths, creating the colorful glow that characterizes the nebula.
  • Within the North America Nebula, there are regions of active star formation. These areas are often associated with the denser parts of the nebula, where gravitational forces can overcome the gas pressure and trigger the collapse of gas clouds to form new stars. These young stars emit intense ultraviolet radiation, which further contributes to the ionization of the surrounding gas.
  • The North America Nebula is a popular target for amateur astronomers and astrophotographers due to its distinctive shape and vibrant colors. It can be observed using telescopes equipped with narrowband filters that isolate the specific wavelengths of light emitted by hydrogen and oxygen ions.

The NGC 7000 North America Nebula stands as a testament to the awe-inspiring complexity and beauty of God's creations, offering a glimpse into the ongoing processes of star formation and the dynamics of interstellar gas clouds.

This photo of the North America nebula represents five (5) evenings of capturing protons. Being high in the sky when these images were shot, I was able to capture more images each evening with an average of four (4) hours of proton capture most nights. Combining 541 images with an exposure of one hundred twenty (120) seconds each to create one final image, resulting in nine (9) hours of integration. Imagine, the shutter was open for two (2) minutes with crisp bright round stars. Spending several hours to integrate all the images into one, then brining out best features of the North America nebula with final editing. Note the Cygnus Wall on what appears to be a transposed Atlantic coast Florida/Georgia region to the left; with its accented oranges and yellows. The natural colors make this a beautiful inspiring image to behold. Astronomy photography requires specialized equipment, more work, more editing, and a lot of patience. Where God guides, he provides.
